About Alan

A print journalist for 35 years now, I've worked for publications such as Business Day, Manila Times, Manila Chronicle, Link magazine and Asiaweek. What do these papers all have in common? They’re all dead. But I had nothing to do with it, officer, I swear.

I’ve written for Time magazine, USA Today, Reader’s Digest and Asian Wall Street Journal, which all seem to have actually survived the experience.

I’ve written on politics, development issues, business, travel, food, movies, books and computer games. I've covered nearly every beat except sports. I've been an investigative reporter, magazine editor in chief, humor columnist, computer games reviewer and journalism trainer.

I currently write for various foreign publications, primarily the South China Morning Post. I have a humor column at ABS-CBN news. From 2000 to 2012 I lectured about online journalism, Internet security, Internet governance and online news publishing at  the International Institute for Journalism (IIJ / InWent) in Berlin.

I'm partial to the school of writing known as “laugh bitterly while trying to be funny and not particularly succeeding.”

Came across your tweets and I am absolutely a fan now -- to both you and Raissa. So I checked your blogs and man what a revelation for me. Binabasa ko ang old postings mo here and I must admit, laughed each time. Thanks! And enough of the Marcoses, traPoes and Binays, pretenders and all not mentioned - we know who they are... and pardon my English, I failed to finish college so I know "words" and "meanings" doesn't escape your keen eye. "Keep on keepin' on" as the line of a song goes...

Good day Allan!
